King for a Season

When hiking the trails in summer my
Eye is often drawn to a bright red flower
Upon inspection I see many red crowns
Fit for the king of the wildflower kingdom  

His kingdom contains white, yellow, pink,
Magenta, red, and blue flowers
He reigns for only a summer season, but
His offspring will dazzle us again next year
