Glacier Peak

(10,541 feet)

It was the perfect time of year you see
So I asked Marty if he would climb a peak with me
Through the woods and along the river we hiked for several miles
On the way we passed a woman, two boys and a dog wearing smiles
Another hiker set up his tent, Bolder Basin was below the snow We put up our tent – how we bathed I don’t know
Next came the woman, two boys and a dog ready to rest
We enjoyed the company but 6 AM would come very fast
Next morning Marty and I hiked the glacier with no one in sight In less than an hour we turned to see the man from last night Coming up the glacier it was no surprise to see
The woman, two boys and a dog beaming with glee
Controlling the dog on the glacier was something to behold
The dog ran and played, but he did what he was told
Over the crevices we walked – over the crevices the dog leaped As we climbed up we saw how the glaciers have crept
We got to the peak through a couloir, a hole in the ice
The woman, two boys and a dog worked hard at these heights There we were – the man, the woman, two boys and a dog – whee
Hugs, handshakes, and shouts all about – thrills for Marty and me
Back at the campsite we packed to hike out Had time to give the woman, two boys and a dog one last shout
